IELTS complaint letter to a neighbour about a dog

A complaint letter to your neighbour

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Your neighbours have a dog that is noisy at night. You can’t sleep.

Write a letter to your neighbours.

In your letter:

  1. describe the problem with the dog
  2. explain why it is essential for you to sleep
  3. outline what your neighbours could do about the situation.

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear _________,

IELTS Letter:

Dear Mr Brown and Mrs Brown,

I am writing to you to bring to your attention a problem that I have been having with your dog at night.

Body Paragraph 1 about the problem with the dog

As you may already be aware, your dog recently has started making small detours at night around the neighbourhood, digging holes in the gardens and often growlings and barking. I was awoken by your dog’s woofs several times lately, which is distressing as I had been prescribed some sleeping pills by a doctor.

Body Paragraph 2 about the importance of sleep

This wouldn’t have been as big of a problem for me if I wasn’t in the middle of a nursing a critical physical injury. I must take adequate rest and sleep during the night hours since I have early morning meetings.

Body Paragraph 3 about the actions that the neighbour can take

Therefore, I will be grateful if you could have your dog looked after by another member of your family away from this neighbourhood for three weeks. By that time, I should be fit again according to my doctor.

End Paragraph

I hope you would act on the suggestion. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Jeremy Brett
