Introduction

In the past, most of us used to shop at small, specialised shops; however, nowadays, most prefer visiting malls where everything is available under one roof, and as a result, shops are closing. Looking at this change, one must analyse whether this is a good trend or a bad one. In my view, malls have brighter future considering their merits.

IELTS Writing Task 2 Malls

Body Paragraph 1

There are multiple reasons for visiting large shopping complexes. Firstly, they have all kinds of products and services under one roof as all shops are in one building. As a result, one saves time and efforts in buying for a variety of products. For instance, recently when I shopped for my office clothes, I realised I needed a few additional light bulbs for Diwali preparation. Since I could find the suitable bulbs on in the same building, I saved another errand in the day. Secondly, one can freely check products as pleased or ask for a trial for goods in a large shopping centre. So, buyers become more confident about what to buy.

Body Paragraph 2

On the other hand, few believe that small businesses are losing their income source because they are losing their traditional customers to malls. Consequently, unemployment in communities is increasing. However, all small shop owners can collaborate and share their resources to build their shopping complexes. Thus, they will be able to attract more customers to their businesses. For example, in my hometown with the help of local municipality small shops have shifted in an organised market which offers a similar experience as that offered by the malls.

End Paragraph

In the end, people prefer organised shopping conglomerates which save their resources and offer liberty while purchasing. Although local shops are getting closed due to this trend, they can collaborate to address their economic issues. So, I believe travelling to shopping malls is a positive development.

There are multiple reasons for visiting large shopping complexes. Firstly, they have all kinds of products and services under one roof as all shops are in one building. As a result, one saves time and efforts in buying for variety of products. For instance, recently when I shopped for my office clothes, I realised I needed a few additional light bulbs for Diwali preparation. Secondly, in these shopping complexes, the shops provide the opportunity to the buyers to touch and try their products. This allows the buyers to make choices while purchasing as well as they are more confident about the items that they wish to buy.

On the other hand , the small business owners running their shops would be negatively impacted, as they lose their customers to large shopping complexes. Majority of these small shop owners have to stop their business, resulting in unemployment. Considering the merits of large shopping complexes, these small business owners can come together and contribute to developing such large shopping complex in partnership. In my home town in India, a group of small businessmen jointly started a large shopping mall and running it successfully.

In conclusion, large shopping complexes provide various advantages to the customers that lead to customer satisfaction. It is highly recommended that small shop owners should shift their paradigm from small business towards larger business in partnership.
