  • ask him/her to return it to you by post.

Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows.

Dear _________ ,

IELTS letter to a friend informing a lost document during your stay at his residence

Introduction

My dearest Sherlock,

Thanks for being a warm host for the past week. The flight back to Mumbai from Heathrow was a bit messy, though I am happy to see my son back here.

Body Paragraph 1 about how you forgot the documents

While staying with you in London, I forgot a dossier containing my biographical information, such as my academic records and other identification documents. I don’t travel with them, but I had to carry them for the seminar I was attending there. As I am not habitual with handling the folder on a trip, I forgot it in your guest room.

Body Paragraph 2 about where those documents are

You will find the green file in one of the drawers in the guest room. I had recently bought it, and it has my initials printed on it.

Body Paragraph 3 about returning the documents

Once you find the said documents along with the file, ensure that the contents are safe. Also, arrange to post them with express delivery as soon as possible. I will pay for the expenses. Just let me know your account details.

End Paragraph

Thanks in advance. Best wishes to your son Maven.

Warm regards,
John

Review of IELTS letter to a friend informing a lost document during your stay at his residence

  • First, the letter is by John to Sherlock, the famous fictional detective in the UK. John was Sherlock’s friend.
  • But the letter captures each instruction well. The informal tone of the letter is also maintained throughout.
  • The introduction paragraph, as expected, avoids opening with the direct subject and keeps the letter away from the main topic.
  • However, the body paragraph precisely addresses the instructions very well. In the second body paragraph, the writer avoids the temptation of writing too many unnecessary points.
  • All ideas are explained sufficiently and are connected well using linking words.
