Review of IELTS Report 2 on the lifecycle of Salmon

  • Although almost all paragraphs are written well by the author, some awkward sentences downgrade this report.
  • The first sentence is very similar to the sentence given in the task. Such repetition is not good if you wish to score higher.
  • The overview misses to mention how many stages does the Salmon fish goes through. Since this paragraph is a summary of the report, the author should not miss it.
  • Consider the following sentence.

At approximately 5 to 6 months, Salmon eggs are found in the upper river surrounded by small shores and reeds.

  • Salmon eggs are not ‘found’ but ‘laid’.
  • It is unclear whether small stones and reeds surround eggs or they surround the river.
  • Also, does it take 5 to 6 months to lay eggs or hatch the eggs. It is not clear.
  • The words used are acceptable, but as shown in the above example, the sentences are unclear as they may change the intended meaning.

Review of IELTS Report 3 on the lifecycle of Salmon

  • The introduction paragraph cleverly avoids repeating the words from the task. However, it could have been structured in a better way.
  • The overview paragraph is not exactly the summary of the report. It is simply information given. So, such an overview is not acceptable.
  • All body paragraphs are acceptable. However, one of the significant aspects of completing the task is comparing major features. Since the author reports each stage in a separate body paragraph, there is no way he or she can compare these life stages. Also, as a result, the writer cannot use comparative sentences.

Review of IELTS Report 4 on the lifecycle of Salmon

  • The introduction in the report manages to avoid the repetition of the task.
  • However, the overview again is not the detailed summary expected.
  • As far as body paragraph 1 is concerned, the author smartly covers the second diagram depicting all body paragraph sizes 1. And, then he or she mentions the actual life cycle of Salmon in the second body paragraph. Such distribution is acceptable.
  • The second body paragraph compares the three stages in the life cycle of the Salmon fish cleverly.
