Introduction paragraph

The first bar chart provides information about the number of marriages and divorces in the USA between 1970 and 2000, whereas, the second bar chart provides the marital status of adult Americans in the years 1970 and 1980. 

Overview paragraph

It is evident form the charts that the number of marriages were highest in 1970 and 1980. Individually, number of marriages increased while the number of divorces after fluctuations settled back to its original point. The number was married people was higher than others in both 1970 and 2000.

Body paragraph 1

The USA registered 2.5 million marriages in 1970. This figure remained the same in 1980 and decreased thereafter thus settling at 0.5 million less than its initial value by the end of the given period. On the other hand, the number of divorces was around one million at the start. This figure was back to its initial point despite a rise during the 1980 and 1990.

Body paragraph 2

In 1970, the percentage of married Americans was 70 which dropped by 10% in 2000. On the contrary, 1% of Americans were divorced at the start. This figure jumped to 9% by the end. The percentage of Americans who had never married was 15% in at the start which saw a rise by 5% in 2000. Lastly, in 1970, 9% of Americans were widowed and this value saw a decline by 2% after 30 years.

Review

Strengths:

The writer uses paragraphing appropriately which ensures a smooth transition in the report. The writer uses synonyms correctly and rarely repeats any words. The writer also presents the figures in a comparative form and reports only the main features from the graphs. The writer uses sufficient connectors and linking devices. The writer has used the appropriate tense throughout the report.

Weaknesses:

The writer has skipped a word or made spelling mistakes at some places. Also, the writer has made subject-verb agreement errors. Overall, the writer has committed a few grammatical errors which do not affect the meaning of sentences but cannot go unnoticed.
