Introduction

Dear Mr Shinde,

I am Pranotii Chauhan, volunteering at your local community centre ‘A Ray of hope’ for the last 3 years. I am writing to inform you that I won’t be able to continue my work at the centre.

Body Paragraph 1 about your contribution to the community centre

I have been teaching drawing and painting to children of 11 to 15 age groups. As painting is one of my hobbies I enjoy giving lessons on different colour combination techniques to these youngsters.

Body Paragraph 2 on reasons for resignation

I am feeling sad to say goodbye to these kids but I don’t have any option as I have received transfer orders from a higher authority at my office. I am moving to Bangalore with my family in the first week of February.

Body Paragraph 3 on who can take your responsibilities

I understand this is a short term notice and so I would like to suggest you a replacement. My friend Pranav who is a full-time teacher would like to join the community service and take on my responsibilities.

End paragraph

I am hoping that you accept my resignation and appoint my recommendation. I have already shared your email id and phone number with Pranav. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Parineeti Chauhan

There are more than 175 words in this letter. Since the author distributes the number of words for each instruction equally, the letter seems logical. The linking words used are apt.

The author maintains the formal tone letter throughout the letter.

However, the words used could have been even better. Also, the sentence variety could have taken this letter to higher bands.

6.5 bands IELTS Resignation Letter to a manager at a local community

Introduction

Dear Mr Thompson,

I am writing this letter to inform you that from now onwards I won’t be able to offer my services to your community classes.

Body Paragraph 1 about your contribution to the community centre

I have been giving a few services to the local community for the last three years. I used to teach mathematics to students in the 10th and 11th standards. Moreover, since I am acquainted with child psychology, I have counselled few children in dealing with their issues. Lastly, I was engaged in storytelling to nursery kids just because I liked spending time with them.

Body Paragraph 2 on reasons for resignation

Unfortunately, I will not be able to continue doing this due to personal reasons. My current project at my workplace requires me to travel from Pune to Chennai regularly. This is becoming too cumbersome for me. By the end of the day, I am so tired that I cannot participate in our regular activities in the community.

Body Paragraph 3 on who can take your responsibilities

However, to not put you under any stress, I have asked my cousin, who is interested in taking my work over. He is a teacher in high school and so fits the role very well.

End paragraph

I request you to treat this as my resignation. I hope you understand my situation. Thank you.

Yours sincerely

Comments

Consider body paragraph 1. These are too many activities or responsibilities for a person to take in voluntary work. I have observed many students are not able to perform well on letter writing as they fear they may not be able to write 150 words. Well, most of the IELTS students can write more than that. For example, this letter has already more than 200 words.

Writing unnecessary points not only takes away your valuable time to check your answers but also makes you unaware of coherence and cohesion.

Similar to the previous letter, this letter repeats the same mistake of writing too many words. Moreover, in the process, the writer deviates from the topic in the first body paragraph.
