Sample Report on Electricity Production by Fuel Source

The given pie charts show electricity production in France and Australia through different sources. This data is given for the years 1980 and 2000.

Overall, the production of electricity through coal was highest in Australia while Nuclear Power was the highest source of electricity generation in France. Individually, the use of coal and hydropower increased in Australia while the rest decreased. On the other hand, Oil and Nuclear power showed an increase in France by the end of the given period.

Body Paragraph 1

Let us first talk about the electricity production in Australia. Coal was the largest producer of electricity in both the years. In 1980, coal produced about 50 units of electricity which climbed to 130 units in 2000. Initially, 20 units of electricity were manufactured by using Hydropower. This figure increased by 16 units in 2000. At the start of the period, Oil and Natural Gas contributed 20 and 10 units respectively to the electricity production and both these fuel sources dropped to two units at the end of the given time.

Body Paragraph 2

In 1980, Nuclear Power produced just 15 units of electricity in France. This number increased by more than eight times the initial value. At first, Oil produced 20 units of electricity which noted a growth of five units in 2000. In 1980, Natural gas and Hydropower generated 25 and 5 units of electricity respectively, both of which reduced to produce only 2 units each after 20 years. The production of electricity through coal remained the same in both the years (25 units).

Strength of the writer

The writer appropriately meets all the criteria mentioned in the instruction, and does their own analysis to come up with numbers not mentioned in the data provided. Trends have been accurately described, and negligible grammatical errors made.  Variety of sentence structures displayed as well.

Weaknesses of the writer and Solution

The writer is not consistent with the way of writing numbers – they use a combination of words and numbers to describe the quantity. The rule of thumb is to write numbers between zero and ten as words, and any number above that as a numerical. Using numericals is attention seeking so it is best to use it sparsely, and for the most important numbers only.
